VISUAL ARTS

Wonderland’s visual arts program reflects our commitment to the creative process and challenges students to reach beyond their capacities.  In our dedicated art studio space, students are encouraged to explore playfully without a predetermined plan and to embrace the opportunity to learn from mistakes and accidents.  While studying art history and using a variety of media, students develop visual awareness and art appreciation.  They learn to set artistic goals, feel confidently to engage in their abilities, and employ imagination to reach those goals.  Every class gets about an hour of Arts instruction once a week.

By teaching children life skills such as developing an informed perception; articulating a vision; learning to solve problems and make decisions; building self-confidence and self-discipline; developing the ability to imagine what might be; and accepting responsibility for completing tasks from start to finish, our students gain skills needed to succeed in the art classroom and beyond. Coursework includes drawing, cartooning, sculpture, photography, book arts, and graphic design.
