ORCHESTRA

The Wonderland orchestra provides students who wish to expand their education beyond general music with an opportunity to learn more about the language of music.  Starting in third grade, students can join instructional classes to learn how to play one of several orchestra instruments (violin, flute, clarinet, trombone, trumpet, etc., not piano, not guitar).  Instruments are loaned to the students by the district free of charge, though students are welcome to use their own if they have one.  After they have learned how to play their instrument, students can audition to join our orchestra.  Typically our orchestra is composed of mostly 5th graders, though some 4th graders, and occasionally an exceptional 3rd grader or two, make the cut as well.  The orchestra performs two times a year, at our Winter Orchestra concerts and our Spring Orchestra concerts.

Outside of weekly orchestra meetings, students practice their instrument at home and their growth is limited only by their own motivation.   The goals for our students are to both master an instrument and to prepare for the two live performances while having fun.  Being a member of the orchestra is a fantastic way to make new friends, find success outside of the classroom and develop a passion for music that lasts a lifetime.
