School Site Council
One of the reasons that Wonderland is so terrific is that much of its policy and curriculum are defined by the community members in its School Site Council.
What it does:
The Wonderland Avenue School Site Council (WASSC) is a group of teachers, parents, and classified employees that works with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. The members of the School Site Council are elected by their peers. Parents elect the parent representatives and teachers elect teacher representatives.
The School Site Council is responsible for creating, implementing and evaluating an annual Site Action Plan designed to boost student achievement. Some of the issues/questions the Site Council will consider in drafting this plan are as follows:
- What are the goals and priorities of our school?
- What data do we have that shows how well we are achieving those goals?
- Are we progressing toward our goals?
- Are there particular groups of students who are not doing as well as others?
- What supports could we put in place to help struggling students?
- How will we fund those supports?
- How will we measure the effectiveness of our programs?
The School Site Council meets monthly, and parents of Wonderland students are encouraged to attend. All meetings are open and the minutes are posted online.
